Labor Day weekend, Dianne, Travis' mom, came to visit for a few days. We had a great time, and truly enjoyed her company.
She arrived on Friday afternoon, so we did not have much planned. We went to the Philadelphia Pretzel Company to indulge in a soft pretzel, and spent the rest of the afternoon at the apartment catching up. I cooked stuffed peppers for dinner; however, we had to treat ourselves to Rita's Italian Water Ice afterwards because our mouths were on fire. I don't know why they were so hot!
Saturday, the day kicked off with Reading Terminal Market. We walked through the entire market, and then enjoyed lunch from one of the vendors. From there, we went to the Red Bull Flugtag event on the Delaware River. Red Bull set up a ramp in the river, and participants built "flying" contraptions that went off the ramp. The goal was to see which contraption would fly the furthest. Most of them just fell straight into the water. Once we left there, we went back to our apartment to rest for a bit. The end of our day consisted of a trip out to the school I am working at, and a delicious seafood dinner.
Sunday, we spent the day in Atlantic City. The weather was perfect, so we enjoyed a walk down the boardwalk to begin our day. Then we had lunch at P.F. Chang's. Before heading home, we played Roulette and Blackjack. I lost every thing, but Travis made up for it by winning $90 on one round of Roulette. Gambling just is not my thing! Sunday evening, we ordered pizza and watched football.
We wrapped up our weekend festivities on Monday with a walk around some of the historic parts of Philadelphia. Dianne got to see and have her picture taken with the Liberty Bell. Travis and I had the chance to buy our niece and nephew a revolutionary war hat and a bonnet, as well as, a book about Benjamin Franklin's inventions.
Thank you Dianne for coming to visit! We had a great time, and can't wait to have you again!
