The past few weeks Travis and I have been extremely tight with our money. As most of you know, loan checks were to go out May 22nd or at least close to that date. Travis received an email on Friday that the check was ready....better late than never, but he has not had a chance to pick up the check yet.
Friday, after an intense dentist appointment, Travis and I decided to treat ourselves to lunch at Jason's Deli. Our first thought was to go to the bank right across the street from the deli and check our balance. I pulled my debit card out and inserted the card into the appropriate slot. Then I followed the directions on the ATM. Excited that we had the money to eat, I pulled the receipt from the dispenser and pulled away. When I got to the exit, I realized I did not have my debit card. Travis and I both got out of the car, looked under the seats, and decided I must have left it in the ATM. I pulled back around to the ATM and there was no trace of the card, so I went inside the bank and they told me they would call if they found the card in the machine. We left the bank in hopes they would find it.
After enjoying our nice little lunch together, I dropped Travis off at the school and I went to Arlington to work the ATOMA golf tournament. Around three o'clock, I received a call from the bank...They found my card. I told them I was stuck at a golf tournament and I would send my husband by to pick it up. The lovely lady on the other line informed me that Travis was not allowed to pick up the card because his name was not on it. ****Let me give you some background information so you can understand how happy I was about this policy. Travis and I both have our own debit cards with our individual names on them, however both cards are linked to the same account which has both of our names on it. The bank that I left the card at is the same bank we bank at. Okay, now hopefully you can see how wonderful their policy is!**** I informed her of what I just informed you of and she apologized but told me she could not do that. So I asked if I could pick it up on Saturday morning, after all we didn't have any money so I really didn't need the card. Her response was that they did not have a "SAFE" place for the card to be kept overnight...LOL!!!! I really did laugh out loud! How does a bank not have a "SAFE" place to keep things of value? Needless to say, I was a little unhappy! After trying to get my point across for about 10 minutes, I asked for the branch manager. She tried to argue the same points the woman before her did, but I finally talked her into allowing Travis to pick it up. She said they would destroy it at the end of the business day if the card had not been picked up. I called Travis and told him what was going on and he agreed to pick it up.
Three and a half hours later Travis called to tell me he was sorry, but he just got out of surgery and he did not make it to the bank in time. At first, I was a little upset, then I went to plan B (Travis can withdraw money for me to use until I get another card). The next morning Travis went to withdraw money for me and his card was not working. He called the bank and they had shutoff his debit card and had sent in a request for Travis and I both to receive new cards.
So before we had a way to spend money, but no money to spend. Now we have money, and no way of spending it. I think GOD is trying to tell us something:)
