MEXICO

Many of you know I recently got back from a trip to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I went with some of the ladies I work with at Millsap. We had a great time. San Miguel is in the middle of Mexico. It is not a beach town, but a place many Americans go to relax in the summers or retire. The weather was amazing, not reaching 80 the whole time we were there. It rained once per day. Most of the people there were English speakers and listened to American music. I would highly encourage people to go. It is gorgeous and the perfect place to get away from the fast paced life we are all accustomed to...and it's cheap!

Day One: Arrived in Mexico City and had a driver take us to San Miguel. It was about three hours away from Mexico City. Once we got there and worked our way to the top of the hill where our house was, we claimed our rooms in our beautiful, spacious home and went down to the Jardin(garden in the center of town) for dinner.

This is the front door of the house we stayed in. You can kind of see the incline

Church in the Jardin at night...Beautiful!

Day Two: We spent the day shopping local shops and markets. We bought fresh produce to make Guacamole. It had to be the best I'd ever had! On our way back to town for dinner, we stopped at the Bullfighting ring to take pictures. It is not bullfighting season, so we didn't get to see a fight.

Day Three: We went on a homes tour put on by a group of Americans who live in San Miguel. All of the procedes go toward the Biblioteca. This particular library helps kids learn English. They also help pay tuition for primary school. This was also the day of the crazy. They had a parade of people wearing crazy outfits and throwing candy. We enjoyed an evening of karaoke at Mama Mia...the locals sang American songs

Day Four: This was another day of shopping and a visit to the Aurora. The Aurora is an old fabric production factory that now houses art of local artists. The art work was amazing; it reminded me of things you would see in New York City. After a nap, we played BINGO at a local bar...so much fun!

Day Five: The Botanical Garden was our first stop. It seemed like miles and miles of cacti. The view of the city was amazing. After our trip to the garden, we went to the spa. I had never had a massage before, and I enjoyed it for the most part. The same night, we went to all the bars we had visited throughout the week.

Day Six: Trip to Delores Hidalgo. This was the town where Mexico claimed their independence. It is also full of Talavera pottery stores and production companies. We had the opportunity to go into a factory and watch them make it. In the center of town there are different vendors selling homemade ice cream of all flavors...some weird. On our way to this town we stopped at a church where women and men meet for a week at a time at separate times. During the week, they worship God and whip themselves for sins they have committed. There was a statue of Jesus in the church with the whip marks on his back.

Day Seven: Got up early to go to the airport in Mexico City.
