Michigan

As most of you know, Travis is in Michigan until the end of November. The two of us left for Michigan on Tuesday, July 28th. We made it to St. Louis by 6pm on Tuesday and spent the night. On Wednesday, we enjoyed a tour at Anheuser Busch and the Gateway Arch. While at Anheuser Busch, we had the opportunity to see the Clydesdale horses and their dalmation, Mikey. We also got to taste fresh from the tank, Budlight. I do not like beer, but it was AMAZING!! The arch was more impressive from the outside than it was from the inside!

Thursday, we left St Louis at 5am and made it to Michigan by 5pm. Our goal in Michigan was to take a look at all the places he would be rotating for the next four months.

Stop #1: Wyandotte, MI
BEAUTIFUL!!!! The town is south of Detroit on Lake Michigan. There is one main street consisting of cute shops, bakeries, ice cream parlors, and cafes. The hospital sits on one end of the main street. Directly to the east of the main street is a park and a large sidewalk lining the lake. On the west side of the main street is the residential area. Since everything is so close to the main street and lake, people walk or ride bikes to enjoy the surroundings. The main street was full of locals sitting around talking. LOVE this place!!!

Stop #2: Farmington Hills, MI
Farmington Hills is west of Detroit. Nice hospital and free child care for residents. Travis and I were not impressed with the neighborhood, and it was difficult to get to because of stop lights.

Stop #3: Grand Blanc, MI
This place reminded me of home! The hospital had an entrance like something you would see at a resort. The hospital its self was huge and nice. It had a rec center for hospital staff and their families. The residential areas consisted of modest homes with land. Most of the people had horses right next to their homes. On the opposite side of the highway there were businesses and a large golf course where they hold the Buick Open...Tiger Woods was there while we were, but we didn't stop to see him. This place would have to be high on my list also!

Stop #4: Mt. Clemens, MI
By the time we got around to this area, we were ready for a break so we may have missed some good areas. For the most part, we were not impressed with the town. The streets were in horrible condition and the businesses looked old and run down.

Overall, we had a great trip and I am happy I was able to see where Travis will be. I miss him like crazy and can't wait to go see him! Travis is currently in Grand Blanc living in a student house along with 8 people. The home is 3 bedroom 1 bath. Needless to say, he is not comfortable and ready for his next rotation even though he really likes the hospital.
